On 2 December 2025, ELSI welcomed a group of eight graduate students and a researcher from the Scuola Superiore di Catania as part of the ‘ELSI Outreach Programme’. The visit aimed to introduce students to Earth–life science research and provide a first-hand experience of ELSI’s unique interdisciplinary environment.

The programme began with an introductory talk by ELSI’s Communication Director, Thilina Heenatigala, who outlined the institute’s mission, research focus, and international collaborations. This was followed by an engaging lecture in the Mishima Hall delivered by Professor John Hernlund, offering students a glimpse into current scientific questions explored at ELSI.

After the talks, the group joined a guided tour of the institute, including several research laboratories. Students were able to observe the facilities up close and gain insight into the day-to-day workings of scientific research, from experimental setups to collaborative spaces.

The visit provided a meaningful opportunity for the students to explore a world-class research environment and engage directly with scientists, enriching their understanding of contemporary science and inspiring future academic pathways.
