The students and teachers of Yokohama Science Frontier High School visited ELSI as a part of the ‘ELSI School Outreach Programme ‘ on 10 September. The students were given an opportunity to experience the ‘research environment’ at ELSI through a guided tour of the facilities.
The tour was followed by a lecture on ‘Reconstructing the evolution of life in the laboratory’ by ELSI’s Specially Appointed Associate Professor Naohiro Terasaka, which was held in the Mishima Hall.
A total of 47 students and teachers joined the programme. ‘It was great to hear in detail about the latest approaches to research on the origins of life, a subject I knew little about. ‘ ‘The research institute’s facilities encompass equipment relevant to many fields, and it was good to see specialised instruments for specific disciplines.’ were amongst the comments of students.
