Launched in 2022, the Earth–Life Science Course is a five-year integrated master’s and doctoral programme in origins of life and astrobiology, offered through the Earth–Life Science Institute (ELSI) at the Institute of Science Tokyo.

As part of the International Graduate Programme (IGP), the ELSI Course welcomes international students eager to explore fundamental scientific questions, such as the origin and evolution of life on planetary bodies. All admitted students receive financial support from ELSI in the form of a research assistantship salary.

Two online orientation sessions for prospective international applicants will be held via Zoom on Thursday, 22 January 2026, from 09:00–10:00 (JST) and 20:00–21:00 (JST).
The orientation includes a Q&A session with ELSI PIs and A-PIs, as well as a breakout session where participants can speak directly with faculty. You may join either session.

This webinar is intended for undergraduate students or bachelor’s degree holders who wish to begin the integrated course in September 2026 or later.

A video will be posted on the ELSI YouTube channel two weeks before the orientation. It will provide a formal introduction to the Earth–Life Science Course, highlight each research lab at ELSI, and explain the entrance exams and application process. As the orientation webinars will focus on Q&A and discussion, participants are asked to watch the video in advance.

To attend, please register in advance via this Google form (click here). Registration closes 24 hours before each webinar.
