Thanaphat Lertmongkhon, who is a 2nd year master student at ELSI (Earth-Life Science Course), won the Outstanding Student Presentation Award in the Solid Earth Sciences Section at the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026, held from May 24 to 29, 2026 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture. He is supervised by ELSI’s Professor John Hernlund.

The Outstanding Student Presentation Award was established with the aim of encouraging outstanding research presentations by students and improving their presentation skills. Lertmongkhon’s poster presentation title was ‘Modeling Thin-Layer Fluid Dynamics for Deep Mantle Structures: Applications to LLSVPs and ULVZs.’

‘It is an honor to receive this award, and I am truly grateful. I could not have achieved this without the support of my advisor, Professor John Hernlund, and my labmates. It motivates me to continue exploring the dynamics of Earth’s deep interior, and probably the interiors of other planets as well.,’ commented Lertmongkhon.
