I’m studying various physical phenomena using large-scale numerical simulations. So far, I have been mainly working in the field of astrophysics, studying the formation of dark-matter halos, formation and evolution of galaxies, evolution of star clusters, and planetary formation. I have also been working on the development of new numerical algorithms for these simulations, and the development of the computers themselves.
Concerning the numerical algorithms, my main interest has been in the algorithms for gravitational many-body simulations. In recent years, I’m also working on the improvement and reformulation of particle-based SPH schemes for hydrodynamics.
I was involved in the design and development of GRAPE series of special-purpose computers for gravitational many-body simulations, and the GRAPE-DR multi-purpose accelerator. Currently I’m part of the effort to develop the so-called “post-K” computer.
